World champ is the TDU’s drawcard

1 min read

The Tour Down Under has pulled off “an absolutely massive coup” by getting Peter Sagan to race in the 2017 event, says Stuart O’Grady.

“He’s the reigning world champion, he’s won the last two world titles, which is extremely rare for someone to do that,” Stuart told the FIVEAA sports show.

“And he’s a character. He’s got a real personality. He’s certainly the new rock star of the cycling world… and he lets his legs do the talking.”

O’Grady said this year’s event boasted a “massive talent pool”, including Aussies Richie Porte and Simon Gerrans — “who are right up there with the best riders in the world on any given day”.

“Then you’ve got all the other superstars from all around the world as well.”
