Another Council Has Voted To Dump Australia Day

1 min read

Members of the Moreland council in Melbourne have voted to drop all references to Australia Day.

It is the third Melbourne council — after Darebin and Yarra — to make the move, and while the first two had their rights to hold citizenship ceremonies stripped by the federal government, Moreland hopes to continue holding ceremonies on 26 January.

The Herald Sun reports the council now plans to push the federal government to change the date of Australia Day.

Local Marion councillor Bruce Hull has previously told FIVEAA he also wants to see the date moved.
