Tear jerking moment deaf girl hears for the first time

1 min read

14-year-old Maggie heard her dad’s voice for the first time…

Maggie Gleason was born without the ability to hear – she was born without cochleas.

She’s never experienced some things that we take for granted every day – music, the sound of birds chirping when you wake up in the morning, her parents’ voices…

Thanks to new technology at University Hospitals Case Medical Centre in Ohio, Maggie was granted the ability to hear.

The moment she heard her dad’s voice for the first time was caught on camera. WATCH HERE:

Just the question, “Maggie, can you hear me?” and a simple nod was enough to make us feel feelings.

The device used on Maggie is an innovative electronic device called an auditory brainstem implant. It provides a sense of sound to a person who is completely deaf.

How did Maggie understand what her father was saying? He was signing at the same time.

Maggie can also read lips, but she’s never heard the sounds, so if he wasn’t signing, she wouldn’t understand what he was saying. Unbelievable isn’t it!?
