Hundreds of students at Palmerston North Boys’ High School (North Island) broke into a traditional Maori war dance to honour their former PE and maths teacher Dawson Tamatea at his funeral.
It’s powerful stuff! WATCH what happened:
The 55-year-old passed away in his sleep on Monday, and the school was closed for half the day for the funeral service.
“A good teacher is someone who is passionate – not someone who presents the best lesson,” fellow teacher Damon Durie was quoted in NZ newspapers.
“He teaches them respect but he does it with a bit of humour.”
