Ben Cousins rushed to hospital following incident with police

2 min read

Former AFL star Ben Cousins has been taken to hospital, after an incident on Canning Bridge in Perth yesterday.

Police were called to a busy West Australian Highway yesterday around 7:25pm, after an incident involving fallen AFL star Ben Cousins.

Three units were called to the scene at Canning Bridge in Perth, after it was reported Cousins was behaving erratically.

Notorious for his former drug abuse, Seven News in Perth is reporting he was in the middle of the highway directing traffic.

He has been described as being “incoherent”, which one of the witnesses say he even tried to jump onto the back of somebody’s motorbike, nearly causing an accident.

One witness told Yahoo News –

“We were standing right there and one metre in front of us a red motorbike stopped and he ripped him off.

“He [the motorcyclist] jumped back on his bike and took off.

“He [Cousins] was trying to hitchhike. The bike went down and he ran into the bushes here. He was fried.”

Her own experience?

“He came down here and ran down this path here and, honestly, I started s****ing myself because I thought it was a crazy person.”

Another witness said he was “off on his own planet”.

“We could not understand him so we were like, ‘We can’t understand you, mate … you’re causing us bad business.’”

“He was really lost, confused, making no sense at all. Seven or eight cop cars turned up left, right and centre. They even had the helicopter above us.”

“He looked like a bit of a mess. His jeans were riding really low and he was running and sweating heaps.”

Off the back of the incident, Cousins was rushed to hospital.

The news breaks only two weeks after West Coast Eagles chief Executive Trevor Nisbett appeared on The Footy Show and expressed his concerns about the former footy star’s welfare.

“I guess the disappointing thing is we weren’t able to salvage Ben out of the wreck,

“I worry (about Cousins) every day. We would like him to be healthy and well and getting on with his life like a 36 or 37-year-old should be doing.

“But we are not sure what space he is in at the moment.”
