Avengers stars Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner have been forced to apologise after making derogatory remarks about Scarlett Johansson’s character Black Widow.
Superstars of the latest Avengers instalment, Chris Evans (Captain America) and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) were devoured by a wall of criticism and fury after comments they made about the character Black Widow.
Backlash ensued from fans after the boys were asked what the thought of Black Widow’s romance with Mark Ruffalo’s character Bruce Banner (Hulk), during a promotional interview… Renner answered with “She’s a slut”.
This caused the two of them to burst out laughing, and Evans chimed in with, “She’s a complete whore”.
Also under fire is Renner’s next comment – “she has a prosthetic leg anyway”.
Evans released this statement over night:
“Yesterday we were asked about the rumors that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America.
“We answered in a very juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize.”
“I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone,” Renner also said in a statement.
“It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.”
