Hawthorn champ Sam Mitchell spilled the beans during the week about a shocking gee-up super coach Alistair Clarkson gave his players before one grand final appearance.
“To think that they go right sometimes, that’s great, but every now and then they go very, very wrong,” Mitchell told SEN on Thursday.
“I remember Clarko one game had the lights off and he was showing us this figure skating and it was all about working together.
“The boys had a bit of a whisper going around — this is the day before game — and as it finished the boys, just to completely take the mickey out of him, just stood up and gave it a standing ovation.
“He just pointed at the door and said, ‘Get out’.”
And speaking of motivational fizzers – Mitchell has previously outed Luke Hodge for “one of the worst” halftime GF speeches of all time in 2013…
This was the speech, as described by Shaun Burgoyne.
“We were up by a bit there and Hodgey fired us up when we came back onto the field and he said he wanted Fremantle to kick the first three goals, just to see us fight back. He had that much faith in us. And then Freo kicked the first three goals.
“I was like, ‘No mate.’”
