Geelong Cat Tom Hawkins has been handed a one-match ban over an incident with Adelaide Crow Matt Crouch as the league cracks down on jumper punches.

“Hawkins was charged with intentionally striking Crouch in Friday night’s clash at Simonds Stadium, with the hit graded as low impact to the head, resulting in a two-match ban that can be reduced to one with an early guilty plea,” afl.com reported on Monday.
Following the run-in Hawkins said he did not intend to strike Crouch high, and his coach Chris Scott said he thought it was more of a push than a strike.
Geelong has until 11am on Tuesday to challenge the ban.
Last week the Match Review Panel was told by the AFL to crack down on jumper punches as players were escaping suspension for intentional hits.
