Richie Porte exploded 1.5kms out from the finish to blitz Stage 2 and take the overall lead.
“It’s nice,” Richie told the FIVEAA sports show. “You don’t always have days like that.”
“To be able to take the time gap — I think it was 16 seconds on the line — I didn’t expect to take that much time. It’s just great to finish off a day of fantastic teamwork by the BMC guys.”

Richie said his BMC team had botched the climb in a previous TDU and had a definite plan heading into Wednesday’s stage:
“That was not to mess around like we did two years ago on the climb where we kinda played cat and mouse…
“I kind of had to back myself a bit. I’ve got good climbing legs. It all worked out today.
But he didn’t do it on his own…
“I must tip my hat to my team, they were absolutely incredible all day.”
