No one is safe: Ken Hinkley

Ollie Wines joined the FIVEAA commentary team in the moments after Port Adelaide’s loss to Geelong on Saturday night and he revealed coach Ken Hinkley had put the players on notice.

“One thing Kenny did say, no one’s spot is safe,” Wines said on FIVEAA. “There’ll probably be a few changes.”

“He was pretty angry and rightfully so.

“The pressure ramps up and we crack, so you can image how Kenny was.”

“We’re going to have to get guys who can be competitive for four quarters,” Wines said.

Wines downplayed David Koch’s public criticism of the team after its loss the previous week to GWS and admitted the team had failed to respond.

“Kochie’s our president and he’s the head of our organisation, and what he said was right last week and we probably deserve one this week,” Wines said.

“We respect him and I don’t think too many people were disappointed with his tweet.”

Wines denied the Power game plan has been tweaked.

“We’ve had the same game plan for the last three years, four years. We get it at times and we move the ball really quickly, we defend hard and then at other times we just fall away and probably get a bit selfish and try and hunt the ball a bit.

“The game plan’s remained the same.

“We just can’t get enough guys to play well at the moment, play their role. It’s another disappointing result for our fans who come and watch us. We’re going to have to do some soul searching this week.

“We’ve just got to find that competitive edge. It was there in the first quarter, then all of a sudden it goes when the heat steps up in that second. We’ve got to find it and find it quickly.

“We knew it was going to go up a gear and to Geelong’s credit they were able to go up and we weren’t able to match it, particularly in the midfield we got dominated,” Wines said.
