Port Adelaide assistant Matty Nicks was busy telling David Wildy and Kane Cornes about the fitness of his Power chargers…
“These guys they’re machines, the players we’ve got,” Matty said.
“You just have to try and get in their running session with them and you realise how fit they are. Sometimes watching from the side you’re yelling and trying to get them to push harder and harder — but when you actually get out there and try and do some of it…”
But Nicksy quickly hit the brakes when he remembered who he was talking to…
“Although I’m probably talking to the wrong — Cornesy’s there with you and I know he can probably run with some of them still…”
Well… All we know is Kane-o smashed the NY marathon late last year.

Nicksy said just training harder wasn’t necessarily the answer…
“It’s about being smarter. It’s about working in the areas you have to and getting drills and sessions done that simulate a game.”
He said it wasn’t enough to just practice more kicking.
“It’s not as simple as that.
“You have to do it smarter, so you have to put your players in the same positions and scenarios that they get in games, and what that requires is the actual pressure.
“Most of our players can hit a target 20 metres away with no pressure.
“The difference is when you’re playing the best sides in the competition the pressure level lifts against you… you need to be able to practice that over and over.”
