Newly appointed AFC coach Matthew Nicks says the club was “screaming out” for the attributes he will bring to the top job.
Nicks said on Tuesday:
“The job had to fit and this one aligned. I’ve been ready to coach for a while. I was waiting for the right opportunity and this was the right opportunity.
“Where I’m positioned and the style of coach that I am, the Adelaide footy club was screaming out for what I can bring. I sat down with the panel and we went through quite a process… the longer I sat through that process the stronger I was in that this was the right fit…
“A lot of people talk about my ability to build relationships. I’ve been in that space since the start. I believe if you want to be successful then you have to have a mutual respect. You have to have a good relationship between both coach and player.
“Some of the most successful teams around the world, let alone our game, you can see they have a culture of mutual respect.”
