Malcolm Blight Fires A Rocket At AFL Awards

2 min read

Aussie Rules legend Malcolm Blight has taken aim at two aspects of the AFL awards season, and wow, he did not miss.

First in Blighty’s sights was the AFL Players’ Association MVP award.

“These are the most over-rated awards in the whole of the world,” Blight said on FIVEAA.

“Players voting on themselves, half of them say they don’t ever watch a game, they don’t even watch their teammates half of them.

“Blokes in the media … would know who played better than most players in the whole comp and I think the media awards are actually higher, they know more about the players who play well.

“It is the most ridiculous awards.”

Not yet done, Blighty also said he was staggered by the decision to name Lance Franklin captain of the All Australian team.

“You have already got a captain in there of the West Coast Eagles who finished second on the ladder in the name of Shannon Hurn, and you pick a captain who is not captain of his club, never has been, never will be… wow, what a decision, I can’t believe it,” he said.

“Strangest decision I have seen in the All Australian team in the last 10 years.”
