Port Adelaide star recruit Charlie Dixon admits he grew nervous as negotiations between Gold Coast and Port Adelaide dragged out during AFL trade week, and has spoken about Port’s big draw card – Ken Hinkley.
“Ken was a big draw card at Alberton,” Dixon told media on Wednesday. “He’s a great leader and builds excellent relationships with players.”
He also described the Power coach and former assistant at Gold Coast – where Dixon and Hinkley’s paths crossed – as “a great bloke”.
“He’s got a ‘no crap’ approach. He’ll give you a whack if you need it.”

Dixon said Hinkley was a calming influence as a deal was hammered out to get the key forward to Alberton.
“I got a little bit nervous during trade week, but Ken reassured me the deal would get done.”
“It was really tough to leave the Suns, but I thought the best thing for me was to get a fresh start.
“I needed a new challenge.”
Dixon said he thought his role at Port Adelaide would be mainly up forward.
“But I’m just looking forward to getting to know the group and fitting in,” he said.
