Kane Cornes reveals Minson’s sledge about his sick son

2 min read

Kane Cornes has revealed what Western Bulldog Will Minson said to him about his sick son during a game in 2008.

Minson was forced to publicly apologise at the time but never revealed what he said to Cornes.

Cornes’s son Eddy was just one and in hospital, fighting for his life after being born with a rare heart defect, when Port played the Western Bulldogs and Minson turned on Cornes and said: “Shouldn’t you be home with your dying son?”

“I was a bit blown away,” Kane told Mike Sheahan in an interview on Fox Footy.

“I played with his brother, Hugh, and I think their father had passed away so I said, ‘That’s a really strange thing to say. I know what you’ve been through’.

“He rang me after the game, but I didn’t take his call.”

Kane’s brother Chad who, along with dad Graham, also appears in the Fox interview, said he rang Minson the next morning “and let him know what I thought”.

“You just don’t say that. Apparently Will’s an OK guy off the field, but obviously not on the field.

“He did the same thing to Danyle Pearce a few years later.”

In 2012, Minson made derogatory comments about Pearce’s mother and was suspended by the club for one match.

“Pearcey was furious about that,” Kane said. “I was surprised (Will) didn’t learn his lesson from the first one.”

The Cornes family Open Mike interview airs on Fox Footy on Monday night.
