Adelaide Crows captain Taylor Walker has called on FIVEAA’s Kane Cornes to put his money where his mouth is after the Port champ told the AFL to make player wages public.
“We live in the information age,” Kane wrote in an opinion piece for The Advertiser. “AFL, it’s time to make the player’s salaries public and spare everyone the undue conjecture and innuendo.”
“The fastest way to end the hysteria and speculation around an individual AFL player’s worth is to make his salary public.”
Taylor Walker weighed into the debate, tweeting Kane to “go first”.
“In 2015 when I was still playing I said on radio that I was on 350k,” Kane tweeted back.
In his article, Kane argued that fans deserve to know those players that are living up to their value — and those who are underpaid.
“The fans deserve transparency. It’s never been more expensive to go to the footy. Season tickets for the family, merchandise and food at the game equates to a significant investment. As key stakeholders, they deserve to know where their club spends its money.”
