Former Crow On What’s Next After Losing His Job At Port Adelaide

2 min read

Scott Thompson says never say never about a possible return to the AFL after losing his assistant coaching job at Port Adelaide.

The former Crows star was let go along with Port Adelaide premiership player Michael Wilson as the club battles the financial fallout of COVID-19.

Thompson told Rowey & Bicks on the FIVEAA sports show:

“It’s disappointing to leave the place because I’ve really enjoyed my time there. Great club, great bunch of people to work with… unfortunately my time’s up, in the short term anyway.

“We still don’t really know what’s going on with the season at the moment and I was out of contract at the end of this year and my role was pretty much made redundant… I find myself now in a position where no matter what the AFL season looks like this year I won’t be going back there.

“I was just about to enter my third year there and really enjoying my time there… in saying all that, to be honest, I’ve really enjoyed the downtime. It’s been nice to unwind and kickback and relax for a period of time and spend some time at home with the family.”

Asked what’s next, Thompson said he was “casting my eyes on a few things”.

“The fitness industry is something that’s always been appealing to me,” he said, “so I might look down that avenue in the short term and see where that takes me.”

“Who knows with footy what might happen going forward but in the short term maybe something down the fitness line.”
