Caroline Wilson has lined up the AFL, saying it was a mistake to play football on Easter Friday.
“The AFL ticked every box,” Caro said on Footy Classified. “The crowd was pretty good, it was a good exciting game… lots of money was raised for the Royal Children’s Hospital and the ratings were pretty good too — but that doesn’t make it right.”
Caro reeled off five reasons why Easter Friday footy is no good:
1. “Another sacred day has gone and it’s become just like any other.
2. “The AFL once led Australian sport in resisting the commercial overtures presented by good Friday — now it has become a follower.
3. “Football over Easter used to feel really special… remember how exciting Easter Saturday footy was even after just one day break?
4. “The AFL, by taking a sacred day and a great Victorian institution, and plonking football in the middle of it, well, that’s just plain unimaginative.
5. “We’ll never get it back. It’s gone.”
