A controversial ad posted on gumtree.com.au calling for “easy on the eye” women to line up for beer at the upcoming Adelaide Oval test has been taken down.
The ad offered to pay $20-an-hour, but “was reported and subsequently removed”, according to Gumtree.
“It violates both our gender discrimination and case job policies,” the company said.
A similar ad was posted calling for “Beer Wenches” on Saturday 12 December at the test match in Tasmania.
“A group of 10 are travelling from Launceston to Hobart to celebrate our mates ‘Bucks Day’,” the post read. “We have thrown up the idea of ‘beer wenches’ to assist with our continued hydration throughout the day. 4-hours of your time would include entry ticket and negotiated rate for day.
“Ability to carry beer and share in the laughter of day (at our mates expense of course) is all that is required.”
In 2013 a Gumtree ad, accompanied by a photo (below), was placed offering women $200 to dress up and act as beer maids at a test match in Perth.
The practice was condemned by Adelaide Oval management when the latest ad appeared online.
“The Adelaide Oval absolutely does not condone this kind of activity,” a spokesperson told The Advertiser.
“There are rules on the responsible consumption of alcohol that are very clear to everyone throughout the venue and on our website.
“We think the boys should do the right thing and get their own drinks.”
