Queenslanders are slamming the decision to play one game in the 2020 QLD v NSW state of origin series in Adelaide.
The Courier-Mail blasted the decision on Thursday, saying SA is “a state known for a mass murder, pie floaters, churches and blackouts…”
“Yet NRL bosses feel one of rugby league’s showcase games should be held in the AFL stronghold of Adelaide.”
MP Robbie Katter said the sacred NRL fixture should be heading to North Queensland before anywhere else.
“Townsville rugby league fans have been extraordinarily loyal to the game,” he said.
“It doesn’t make sense that we’ll have a new stadium that will be ready and State of Origin goes somewhere completely ambivalent to the game.
“The game is about a lot more than making dollars — it’s about looking after people and keeping traditions alive.”
State of Origin belongs to the people of Queensland and, to a lesser, degree NSW. Why has the #NRL handed it to people who don't even care, asks Mike Colman https://t.co/omsMVxCUzJ
