The MCG will continue to host the AFL Grand Final until at least 2057 as part of a new “mega deal” with the Victorian government.
Revealing the news on the Channel 9 Footy Show, host Eddie McGuire said it was “one of the biggest stories in the history of the game”.
“This is a story that is going resonate right throughout Australia and is going to touch the hearts of every person who loves the game of Australian Rules football.”
The deal between the AFL and the Victorian government also includes:
– $225 million to redevelop Etihad Stadium and the Docklands precinct.
– A commitment from the MCC to build a new great southern stand within the next 5-10 years worth more than $1 billion.
– And $250 million in funding to upgrade community ovals.
