TDU Already In Talks To Change Race Following SCORCHING Weather Forecast

Jan 10, 2019

Santos Tour Down Under organisers are already in talks to potentially modify this year’s event after temps were tipped to hit 42 next week when the race is on.

Event director Hitaff Rasheed told FIVEaa breakfast on Thursday:

“It’s looking pretty warm for stages 1 and 2 of the men’s. We’re certainly monitoring that. I’ll talk with the race director about that today… we’re talking to the teams.

“In the past including last year we’ve had to make modifications to race routes and we’re not afraid to do that because in the end the safety of the riders, safety of our staff and the safety of spectators is the most important thing.

“We’re already talking about if there were modifications what they would be… we usually make the decision the day before but those conversations will start. … our race director Mike Turtur will be chatting with the team representative and the rider representative and start to get a view of what we want to do.

“We always come to a decision together because we all want the same thing, which is everyone to be safe.”
