Port Adelaide young gun Sam Powell-Pepper says his internal suspension for a drunken night out earlier in the year was a wake up call.
“The decisions I was making wasn’t really at that professional level that I was hoping to be,” SPP has told Fox Footy. “As a mate and as a teammate to Trav I felt like I let him down there because it wasn’t the right thing to do.”
“I was living in the same house as him, kind of put him under a bit of pressure as well.
“I knew straight away that I let him down and the team as well. I was expecting a fairly good grilling.”
Boak said it was the only time he’s ever been angry at his young housemate.
“When we first heard about the incident we met as a leadership group straight away. Pep came in and I was the first one to speak to him in that meeting and that was probably the only time I’ve been angry at you… I was pretty angry at the time.
“It was based around being out late. He obviously broke that team rule and I said, mate, you’re going to miss a game of footy for it.
“The relationship we have he understood straight away that was the decision I had to make as captain… we had that brief discussion at the club and from there it was about us as friends and helping as a friend, not only a captain.”
