Eddie McGuire and Sam Newman’s absence from a key Channel 9 event raised a few eyebrows interstate on Wednesday.
According to News Corp entertainment reporter Colin Vickery:
“The mystery over the fate of The Footy Show as well as Eddie McGuire and Sam Newman has only deepened after Channel 9’s Upfront presentations…
“McGuire and Newman were conspicuous by their absence at the Nine event which laid out the network’s programs for 2019.
“Nine mentioned The Footy Show in a sports media release but gave no names of any on-air talent as discussions continue about the program’s future.
“That would suggest that McGuire and Newman as well as Brendan Fevola, Shane Crawford and Billy Brownless are no certainties to be part of the equation.”
A Nine spokeswoman said:
“Nothing has changed — we are still in ongoing discussions with JAM TV but we are definitely not giving up the space.”
In September Sam Newman farewelled fans on air in case it turned out to be his last ever show.
