Sam Powell-Pepper’s “sneaky” high five with an umpire after the pair collided helped him kick a miracle goal — and might also help him out at the AFL tribunal.
SPP was spotted running out of his way to apologise to an umpire during the Port v Suns China game on Saturday, which then put him in the perfect spot to gather a loose ball and kick a goal.
“I’m sure in the back of his mind he thought, hmm, tribunal during the week… I wonder if I just run over and sneaky high five, that might soften the blow for me,” Nick Riewoldt said on Fox Footy.
Brad Johnson agreed.
“Of course, that’s exactly what would’ve gone through his mind. He’s thinking I’ve made contact with the umpire here, I’m going to go over and say sorry, mate.
“He’ll probably still get fined… they should halve the fine for going over while ball is still in play high fiving the ump, going sorry mate. Good on the ump for actually giving him a high five back.”
