Port Adelaide Confirms Ollie Wines Is On Track To Be Next Captain

2 min read

Port Adelaide footy boss Chris Davies has all but confirmed Ollie Wines will be the club’s next captain after the star midfielder signed a new four-year deal with the club.

“I think Ollie’s on a trajectory at our club, when and if that happens will be down the track,” Davies has told SEN.

“He’s a 23-year-old vice-captain. He’s a guy that we lean on to get things done around the club and he’s well-liked and respected by his peers.

“He shows his commitment to us every day at training and every day amongst his peers and on the weekend so for him to show faith for a future four-year period is great for us.

“He’s got a wicked sense of humour and he’s certainly able to put his foot down when needed.

“He’s the type of guy that when he speaks, the guys around him listen, guys around him follow him.

“Once he elevates himself to captaincy down the track, I’m sure that those traits will be on show.”

On Tuesday night the club announced Wines had recommitted to the club until at least the end of 2022.

“This club has done everything right by me and my family since it welcomed me into the club six years ago,” Wines said.

“I have a firm belief in where the club is heading, the playing group it’s formed and the support off-field, and I am looking forward to the future.

“My position, and the club’s position, throughout our discussions has been that we have been in a good space and it was only a matter of time before I signed on again.”
