Ollie Wines Opens Up About The Calls To Drop Him

1 min read

Port Adelaide co-captain Ollie Wines says his spot in the team isn’t “set in concrete” after a bad game last weekend, but says some of the calls to drop him have been a “bit harsh”.

Ollie told FIVEAA Breakfast on Friday:

“I pour everything I’ve got into this game and getting better and wanting to preform on game day. It hurts me the most. I’ve got a bit of a chip on the shoulder at the moment and tomorrow afternoon couldn’t come quick enough…

“I think no one’s spot should be set in concrete and assured each week. Despite being captain my spot has a price to pay. I think the reaction to it has perhaps been a bit quick… it was one game. Obviously it was a bad loss, it’s got to fall on someone. I’m happy to take the fall for the boys. I’ll go to bat for them till the day I die.

“I think it’s been a little bit harsh, but as I said before no one hurts more than me. I want to play well every week and obviously I didn’t play well on the weekend but I’ve got the opportunity now to have a crack tomorrow arvo.”
