Former Dees champ Garry Lyon has questioned how new Port Adelaide recruit Jack Watts will suddenly become a great player after already playing nine years at the top level.
“Why is [the penny] going to drop in your 10th year of footy?” Lyon said on SEN during the week.
“There was a three-week period there… where he was backing into packs, his second efforts were fantastic, he was diving in. I looked it and thought, ‘Yeah, hallelujah. He’s back!’
“But then it just dissipates.
“He’s been a good at times but not for long enough very good player and a popular but also very frustrating footballer.
“He’s had nine years at the elite level and finished in the top five of the best and fairest once. He averages 16 touches and 0.9 goals per game throughout his career. He’s polled a total of 13 Brownlow votes in 153 games.
“Previous regimes have been prepared to settle for less from Jack and I don’t think the Goodwin cartel will.”
