Following a suggestion from former AFL superstar Chris Judd that the Adelaide Crows might be better off letting go of Rory Sloane, Malcolm Blight has weighed in and his message is clear — don’t do it.
“You’d think about it, and that’s probably all you’d do,” Blight said on FIVEAA.
“It’s hard enough getting a good player who’s a very good bloke. He’s been a fantastic club man.
“I know there’s talk he could go back home and all that, but I reckon they’re the fabric of your club.
“There are some blokes you probably shouldn’t do that to and my personal opinion, what I see of Rory Sloane, he’s not one guy you do that to.”
On Monday night’s Footy Classified Judd said the Crows could benefit by trading the unsigned star.
“He’s going to be 29 next season,” he said.
“You almost wonder are you better off letting him go or trading him out and getting something in the door rather than keeping him there.
“Whoever takes him as a free agent is going to offer him significant coin, which figures in what compensation they get as a club. South Australia have a couple of incredible early draft picks this year… The Crows have made no secret they’d love to get their hands on them.
“It will be interesting to see if that’s something they advocate for.”
