Malcolm Blight Offers Some Free Advice To Ken Hinkley

1 min read

Aussie Rules great and premiership coach Malcolm Blight says he would like to give his old friend and Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley some advice.

Blighty, who coached Hinkley at Geelong, said on FIVEAA:

“Obviously I know Ken Hinkley fairly well, but there are some things in the Port team… their scoring accuracy is 43 per cent. They’re third in disposals. They’ve actually played some pretty good footy.

“But what they do going forward, they kick it far too many times either to the forward pocket or the point post. You have a look at the number of entries. What I used to do — and this is passing on some advice — is to map the entries and where they end up in the forward line. You’ll find Port nearly always kick to the pocket or the side.

“This is the modern coach. He says, ‘Well, it’ll open us up down the middle.’ You’re losing anyhow! Port have had 60 inside 50s average in their 8 games. The opposition have had 50. Ten more. They’re getting the ball in there, they’re doing a lot of good work, and the coaching panel is doing a lot of good work, but for goodness’ sake straighten up.”
