Super coach Malcolm Blight sees things a bit differently.
“This sounds probably silly, but the most overrated thing I see in football is tackling,” Blighty said on FIVEAA during his Sportsday debut with Kane Cornes. “Because tackling means you’re not getting the ball.”
“In the perfect world the ruckmen go up, you tap it to your rover, you kick it to full forward, full forward kicks a goal… you don’t need to tackle.
“When I coached I dreamt what I wanted to see teams and our players do, so I actually put them in that position. Only when the other mob got it did we have to try and get it back off them.
“I’m 80 per cent get the footy. If you focus on 80 per cent of what you do I reckon you’re a lot better off.”
