Malcolm Blight’s exclusion from the Aussie Rules team of the century seems outrageous at first, but now the Messiah himself has explained how he came to be left out.
“You’ve got to remember the criteria,” Blighty told Kane Cornes on FIVEAA. “I was nominated in a forward pocket. Don’t forget I never had a real position…”
“These are the guys I was up against in the forward pocket: Leigh Matthews and Gary Ablett Snr — those two and me were nominated for the forward pocket. Tough.”
But surely the great man could have nabbed a spot on the bench?
BLIGHTY: “I agree… that’s probably what it should’ve been.”
