Jared Polec says his former teammate Chad Wingard is heartbroken as the club prepares to trade him.
“I’ve spoken to him a few times about it, not during the season, but after the season,” Polec told Channel Nine’s The Trade Table on Monday night.
“His head was kind of in no man’s land at that stage and I believe that he’s heartbroken.
“He loves the club, anyone that speaks to him knows he loves Port Adelaide.
“It was a bit of a shock decision.”
Wingard asked the club to trade him to Hawthorn following, according to Kane Cornes, a difficult season exit meeting in which his work ethic was questioned.
“The only reason Wingard is leaving is because he’s not feeling a lot of love for Ken Hinkley and perhaps more security and more finances from Hawthorn,” Cornes has previously said.
