Eddie McGuire has fired a shot at critics of the AFL Footy Show, including original panellist and media identity Tim Watson.
The Footy Show has been consistently out-rated by Channel 7’s The Front Bar this year.
Speaking about departed co-host Rebecca Maddern, Eddie said he was “as proud as punch” that The Footy Show had been the “launching pad for yet another star”.
“As it has been for just about every other person in the media as far as football is concerned.
“Tim Watson (is) trying his best to have a go at it. We remember that Tim launched his media career on The Footy Show.
“It’s an evolutionary time. It’s taken 25 years to get good opposition and now we have to fight against it. It’s good, I’m looking forward to it.
“As Mark Twain said, the reports of our death have been greatly exaggerated.”
Watson has previously said The Footy Show’s demise was “very sad”.
