Former Port Adelaide premiership coach Mark Williams has called Adelaide a “manufactured club” while sharing his thoughts on the steady stream of stars that have left the club.
“Adelaide is a manufactured club that was thrown together,” Williams said on Melbourne radio. “They’ve been together for 20 years and been pretty damn successful as well, but maybe it has something to do with that.”
“You can polish it and ripen it, make it look good, but it will never be a traditional club.
“Port Adelaide goes out of their way to try and make people be invested into the club. They are a club based on long term, old club traditions.
“We didn’t want people leaving Port Adelaide, it was really important for us to say to everyone else there, 20 of you might have come from interstate, but we want you to stay and see out your contract.
“We want to see you play your career with us. It worked well for us.”
