Chris Fagan will have surgery after scans revealed the Brisbane Lions coach ruptured his hamstring will sliding into the ice during the Big Freeze event at the MCG on Monday.
Fagan slipped while climbing out of the pool.
The annual event raises money to tackle MND, which has struck down former coach Neale Daniher.
