Mark Bickley says the hold up in re-signing Jake Lever highlights a problem with how Adelaide negotiates player contracts.
“The one thing I reckon Adelaide are pretty poor at, they play the ambit claim game,” Bicks said on Wednesday.
“They come well unders and expect you to come in at overs and then they keep moving towards it… I don’t think that endears them at all to managers.”
But he remained confident Adelaide would re-sign the key defender who says he is still weighing up his future.
“Lever was really rapt the club took him despite having a knee reconstruction and he feels indebted to them,” he said.
“The one thing that will happen — Adelaide will have to get somewhere close. They will pay a lot more than they initially wanted to, but they will realise that they want to keep this bloke. He is the future captain of this joint.
“At the moment, he is playing well, and they (Lever and his management) are fielding offers from everywhere.”
