AFL Star Caught Up In Israel Folau Instagram Scandal

Apr 15, 2019

Geelong superstar Gary Ablett has been linked to the social media storm engulfing rugby player Israel Folau after it emerged the veteran Cat had liked a controversial post published by Folau.

Folau’s career is up in the air after Rugby Australia revealed it could terminate his contract after the Wallaby posted comments online stating homosexuals and others would go to hell.

Now, according to News Ltd, Ablett liked the Folau post before undoing it on Sunday.

The Herald Sun reports:

Geelong champion Gary Ablett and Carlton midfielder Matthew Kennedy were among the 37,000 Instagram users who tapped “like” on Folau’s controversial post, which said gay people must repent or go to hell…

Ablett and Kennedy are both deeply religious, and the Cats star, 34, removed his like on Sunday.

The Cats were unaware of Ablett’s interaction with the post and did not order him to remove his like.

Their interaction with the post is believed to be solely tied to the Christianity component, with Folau’s post including a verse from the Bible.
