Hawthorn assistant coach Scott Burns has shot to the top of betting markets to take over as next Adelaide Crows coach.
Channel 7’s Tom Browne says time “is of the essence” in Adelaide’s search for its next coach, and says Burns leads the list of contenders.
“I’d say Scott Burns,” Browne said. “Their review’s ongoing — they really need to lock in a coach in the next three weeks because their whole list strategy where they try and retain players or got to the draft really turns on the coach.
“So time is of the essence with that search. I think Scott Burns and Justin Longmuir but I think Longmuir the Collingwood assistant will got to Fremantle.”
On Monday morning, Ladbrokes.com.au listed Burns as a clear $1.90 favourite to coach the Crows, ahead of Michael Voss ($6) and Ross Lyon ($7).
Burns played 256 games for Collingwood and has been an assistant coach at West Coast, Collingwood and Hawthorn.
With Rutten basically officially earmarked to take over from Woosha, Scott Burns leads the race for Adelaide. They need to get a wriggle on. The whole retention / trading / draft strategy will be influenced by the new coach. https://t.co/eQ4wDOGKFC
