FIVEaa’s Stephen Rowe and returning broadcast great KG Cunningham have finally cleared the air almost a decade after Rowey replaced KG as Graham Cornes co-host on the station’s sports show.

“I want to clear something up,” Rowey told KG on Wednesday. “Nine years ago I replaced you. I sat in this chair, Stud was to the right, and you were gone. Stud opened up with, ‘Welcome to the show, well done for shooting Bambi,’ and I nearly cried. Did I pot you?”

“Let me make it clear, Rowey,” KG said. “When management came to me and had the meeting that my contract wasn’t going to be renewed I was disappointed but I accepted that because that was their call, no problems at all.”

“The only thing that disappointed me was that I wasn’t told the truth why I wasn’t going to be contracted. But Rowey, I don’t care who replaced me, that wasn’t on my mind at all. You didn’t ‘shoot Bambi’ at all. That’s the industry, that’s the environment we live in and you ride the bumps.”

KG is back on FIVEaa from 26 January where he will host the Saturday sports show from 9am with Graham Cornes.

“It’s great to be back,” KG told Rowey and Bicks. “And can I use the term it’s nice to come back home having spent 17 years here. It’ll be great but I’m nervous as a kitten. Honestly, fair dinkum -- seriously.”

“I wake up every morning and the first thing I think about is Saturday… I’m looking forward to the old Stud again. Has he mellowed? In debates now is there more than stud’s point of view? I’ve never won an argument with him.”
