FIVEaa’s Stephen Rowe is getting behind the AFL’s bushfire recovery game, but he says the fixture doesn’t deserve to be billed as “state of origin”.

Rowey told the FIVEaa sports show:

“The bushfire relief game is Victoria -- the Big V -- vs. the rest of us, known as the All-Stars…

“I love the AFL industry getting behind bushfire relief. I think that is absolutely superb, but this is my big but. Why are we playing the Big V? I think it should’ve been two all-star teams -- north vs. south or east vs. west or pick two captains, two teams…

“They get the honour of wearing the Big V and I think for me it’s another example of a Victoria-centric comp. Don’t call it state of origin, it ain’t state of origin. It is the Big V vs. the rest of us and I don’t think they deserve that right.

“It should’ve been two all-star teams… why do they get to play in their jumper and we can’t play in ours? Give me a spell.”
