There is a “golden twist” in Port Adelaide’s Shanghai headache with the club tipped to unveil a new joint major sponsor with links to China, says former club captain Warren Tredrea.

Tredders said it was “impossible” for the club’s Shanghai clash to go ahead in the face of the coronavirus outbreak.

He has told the FIVEaa sports show:

“I think everyone’s sitting back waiting for someone else to rule this one out… If the China game goes ahead Port plays St Kilda on the Sunday. Then you’re supposed to fly back to Australia into quarantine and spend two weeks in quarantine. That says to me the Showdown has to be played in quarantine this year. I just think it’s impossible.

“The Shanghai grand prix was the big pillar, so depending what happened then, and last week that got ruled out.

“I think Port Adelaide still are super keen on hoping something can happen and the infrastructure’s still there, but I think people realise it’s going to be difficult… I think it’s going to come down to the Australian Health Commission or someone political…

“I think there will be some hurt, but what I can tell you is I think there is a little bit of a golden twist to this because I think Port’s not far away from -- I hear, I haven’t got the name yet -- joint major sponsor which could be linked to China.”
