Port Adelaide star Ollie Wines has spoken out in favour of suspensions for players who concuss an opponent in a tackle.

Patrick Dangerfield and Brodie Grundy have both copped bans for rough tackles in recent weeks.

“I really understand where the tribunal is coming from,” Wines told the FIVEaa sports show on Wednesday. “Despite the tackles being accidental, I guess no one wants to see players knocked out.”

“Obviously there’s no malice in the tackle -- I think Brodie Grundy said after that he did not mean to knock him out.

“But I think there has to be consequences for things like that -- tackling the players and pinning his arms, you’ve got a duty of care to bring them to ground safely.

“I’m not against those suspensions, to be honest.”
