Mark Bickley says “it’s sad that it’s come to that” after former Adelaide Crows captain Taylor Walker revealed he avoided going out in public during a difficult time at the club.

Bicks told the FIVEaa sports show:

“I know Taylor Walker fairly well because of an association down there coaching and he is a happy-go-lucky type of guy. It really surprised me when he spoke about the fact that he really didn’t want to go our and meet people.

“That’s a really interesting one: ‘I wouldn’t go out because I didn’t want to see people, supporters.’

“He was specifically talking about his own fans there… I think that’s one of the issues at the moment, that players clearly feel under enormous pressure… if they’re not playing well they don’t feel worthy of going out in public…

“When you and I played we had horrible losses, we lost by 20 goals, but I don’t think we ever felt the need to hide away. That’s been a major shift from where I sit and it’s sad that it’s come to that.”

During the candid interview filmed for afl.com.au, Walker also spoke about doubts about his future at the Adelaide Crows and regrets regarding Jake Lever’s departure from the club.
