Mark Bickley On What He Thinks Will Happen With The Captaincy Of The Adelaide Crows

Oct 31, 2019

Adelaide Crows premiership captain and FIVEaa’s Mark Bickley believes Rory Sloane will be named sole captain of the Adelaide Crows, saying, “I think that’s most likely the way it will go.”

Taylor Walker stepped down as captain last month after five seasons in the role, including one season sharing the role with Sloane in 2019.

But Bicks is backing Port Adelaide to stick with its two co-captains after Tom Jonas said he hoped to share the job again with Ollie Wines next season.

Bicks told the FIVEaa sports show:

“Maybe it spreads the load. If Tom Jonas is the captain everything falls onto him. He’s a player who plays deep in defence. Often you want someone who’s going to be influential as a leadership person around the ball. I don’t think it’s going to win you a game or lose you a game either way…

“I don’t think you lose anything. It just comes down to whether you want to stick with traditional or whether you are prepared to say if we think this is better for our footy club we will step away from tradition…

“There’s probably six AFL clubs would have more than one captain -- are they all wrong?”
