Former Australian Prime Minister John Howard would “certainly be keen” if he was offered the role of Cricket Australia chairman, FIVEaa’s Stephen Rowe reported on Thursday.

Rowey said Mr Howard had sent a response to FIVEaa breakfast’s David Penberthy after the former PM’s name was mentioned as a possible candidate for the job.

“Penbo has a close relationship with Mr Howard over the years. We got him to contact his people… and our understanding is -- this is Penbo and myself -- that if he was asked he would certainly be keen to put his hand up.

“I think he would be a great candidate. Remember he was nominated by Australia and New Zealand to be president of the ICC.

“He is a passionate cricket man. He’s respected. His diplomacy would be outstanding… I think he would be fantastic.”
