Caroline Wilson has named the West Coast Eagles’ premiership win and re-emergence as a national powerhouse as the biggest of her top 12 AFL stories of 2018.

1. West Coast Eagles.

“Nobody could’ve predicted this,” Caro told the FIVEaa sports show. “I didn’t have them in my eight… the players they let go, the Priddis decision, they lost Sam Mitchell in the middle of the year… this story of what they managed to achieve against all odds…

“Be very afraid, AFL people, the West Coast is back. I’m told they made in Grand Final week -- before the game was even played -- $8 million. That was unbelievable what they did for the national league… the way that game ended, all the things they went through… what they achieved in that grand final was unbelievable.”

2. Rebuild of the Collingwood football club.

3. Fallout at the Adelaide Crows following the 2017 GF loss.

4. Rules of the game.

5. MCG and Marvel stadium deals.

6. Gold Coast Suns losing both co-captains.

7. Woeful fixture.

8. Rebuild of the Melbourne footy club.

9. Footy in Tasmania.

10. Problems with the AFLW.

11. Return of Jeff Kennett and Hawthorn’s resurgence.

12. Dan Hannebery’s departure from the Sydney Swans.

Just missing out:

- Gary Ablett’s return to Geelong.

- GWS salary cap issues.
