Bec Goddard Is Firming For A New AFLW Job

Inaugural Adelaide Crows AFLW premiership coach Bec Goddard is a “big chance” to become the next coach of the Collingwood women’s team, says Caroline Wilson.

Caro has told the FIVEaa sports show:

“The AFL are really keen for Bec Goddard to come back into the system. They’re really keen for her to have a crack at this Collingwood job.”

“She is now back in Canberra. She’s still working for the federal police… she was a NEAFL coach last year, she’s been working with the WNBL… and yet at the moment her footy role is Saturday morning volunteer at Auskick.

“If the AFL wants to encourage women to come into the game and stay in the game… then I think Bec remains a symbol.

“She knows and we all know that she can obviously rub people up the wrong way. I think she’s a straight talker and I don’t think people are necessarily ready for that in terms of the male realms.

“I think it’s a pity she wasn’t offered a bigger job at the Crows like many men who coach AFLW have been at other clubs. But I think that’s all changing. I think the coaches are getting around the change and I think the Coach’s Association view is why are we cutting off half the population? Why are we making them not feel welcome?

“I think she will have a crack at this Collingwood job and she might just be a very big chance to get it.”
