Horticulturist and TV personality Don Burke says Australia has a “sad” lack of entrepreneurs who can grasp the future…

“The history of Australia is an interesting one,” Don told FIVEaa’s Michael Keelan.

“We’re one of the most innovative countries in the world. A huge number of innovations come from there, but we very rarely get them developed in Australia. Industry has never supported creative ideas in Australia, be it the forklift truck [invented in Australia] … to a thousand other things.”

“It is a problem,” Don said. “We do not have enough entrepreneurial people who can grasp the future. It’s sad.”

Don compared Australia with Singapore, which he said is at the cutting edge of horticulture.

“Singapore is probably the most modern country in the world and the most progressive one…

“Their gardens and their buildings, they’ve all got rooftop gardens -- it’s stunning. Singapore is a delight for the entire world to see.”
