Much-loved Channel 10 newsreader Rebecca Morse says her life took an unexpected turn after spending two years working in Darwin with her partner James Wakelin.

“I was pretty keen to get back to the eastern states,” Bec told Pilko on FIVEaa, “and ABC’s very good at finding opportunities for you.”

“They transferred me to Brisbane, and when I got to Brisbane I discovered that I had brought a souvenir with me from Darwin… which was a baby.

“This was a little hiccup in my career path, which I thought would see me become a foreign correspondent for the ABC.

“Poor Grace, my 14-year-old… I hope she’s not listening…

“It was not greeted with the enthusiasm that some people might perhaps greet a pregnancy.”

In her wide-ranging chat with Tony Pilkington, Bec also revealed an unexpected musical connection from her youth.

“I started at Blackwood High in year 10, went to school with the Hilltop Hoods -- nowhere near as cool as them. I was in the library while they were rapping -- we didn’t move in the same circles.

“We could tell they had a little bit of talent, even in the Blackwood High playground.”
